A sociological examination of youth gangs. Factors related to formation and maintenance of youth deviant culture in different historical periods. The social construction of gangs, gang resistance to social control, and criminalization of youth of color. Structural, community and neighborhood influences. Approved for Compass Curriculum requirement: Inclusiveness (Global/Diversity). Meets with WEST 3490. Prer., A minimum of 60 credit hours completed or consent of instructor.
