GPS 4090 - Peer Mentors for the Gateway Program Seminar3 Credits (Minimum) 3 Credits (Maximum)
This course examines the complementary processes of teaching and learning from both theoretical and pragmatic perspectives. Students will learn to engage, listen, and assist first-year students in a mature and professional manner relating to their adjustment to UCCS and their new academic environment. Students will also work with faculty sponsors to contribute to the instruction of their designated Gateway Program Seminar class. Students will learn to make connections between various disciplines (Education, Psychology, Communication, and Leadership) and also apply these connections directly to the GPS 1010 course in which they are mentors. GPS 4090 is disctinct from courses within any major. It is designed as an upper-level, service learning-oriented complement to GPS 1010. Students will serve as peer leaders in 50 different multidisciplinary and disciplinary courses, and are selected from across all majors and colleges on campus. Prer., Instructor consent required.
