Pre-Pharmacy

IMPORTANT: UCCS does not have a pharmacy program. Pre-Pharmacy Prep is not a major or a minor but a listing of prerequisite courses and recommendations needed to be eligible for admission into CU Skaggs School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO.

Students completing the pre-Pharmacy Prep program are advised to choose a major and graduate with a bachelor’s degree from UCCS. A college program leading to a bachelor’s degree generally strengthens a student’s application to the program.

Other programs may have different requirements. Students should check admissions requirements for all schools to which they plan to apply. Completion of requisite coursework does not guarantee acceptance into any professional degree.

Required Courses

The following courses must have been taken within 10 years of application to the Pharmacy program.

ENGL 1310 - Rhetoric and Writing I
ENGL 1410 - Rhetoric and Writing II: Argument and Research
COMM 2100 - Public Speaking
ECON 1010 - Introduction to Microeconomics
SOCIAL SCIENCES and HUMANITIES: Complete at least two courses of social sciences, humanities, and/or foreign languages. Highly recommended departments and courses include: ANTH (1040), COMM, ECON (1000), FCS, PHIL (4410), PSY, SOC, SPAN, and WEST.
ELECTIVES: Complete at least 9 hours of general education electives.

Notes

Prerequisites: Many courses have prerequisites that fall outside of this list; be sure to check the catalog for course details. Science labs and the public speaking course cannot be completed online.

Time Limits: Science and math courses must have been completed within the last 10 years.

Grades: All requisite coursework should be completed with a grade of “C” or better, and must be completed in the spring semester prior to matriculation. The average cumulative GPA of admitted students is 3.4.

Credit by Exam: CLEP or department exam credits are not accepted to fulfill prerequisite course requirements. Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) credit is accepted only if transcript reflects the exact credit earned.
