General Information

  • The Music major requires a minimum of 52 credit hours of MUS course work, with at least 29 hours of upper-division (3000+ level) MUS course work. No more than 54 credit hours of MUS course work can apply to the degree.

  • A minimum of 9 hours of VAPA auxiliary courses is also required for the major.

  • All major and auxiliary course work must have a grade of “C” or better.

  • All Music majors must meet with the department’s Program Director each semester for academic advising. Contact the Music Program Director for details.

Course Requirements


Complete all of the Music major course requirements listed below. Refer to the degree audit and advising guide for additional general education courses needed to complete the bachelor’s degree.

Applied Lessons (6 credit hours)


Complete 6 hours of instruction, 1 hour each from 1600 and 2600, and 2 hours each from 3600 and 4600, on a primary instrument or voice.

Auxiliary Requirements (9 credit hours)


Complete 9 credit hours of Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Core Courses.
