General Information

The Music major requires a minimum of 52 credit hours of MUS course work, with at least 29 hours of upper-division (3000+ level) MUS course work. No more than 54 credit hours of MUS course work can apply to the degree.

A minimum of 9 hours of VAPA auxiliary courses is also required for the major.

All major and auxiliary course work must have a grade of “C” or better.

All Music majors must meet with the department’s Program Director each semester for academic advising. Contact the Music Program Director for details.

Course Requirements
Complete all of the Music major course requirements listed below. Refer to the degree audit and advising guide for additional general education courses needed to complete the bachelor’s degree. Required Courses (22 credit hours)
Complete all of the following courses: Music History Elective (3 credit hours)
Complete one of the following courses: Ensemble Courses (6 credit hours)
Complete 6 hours of ensemble from the following courses: Applied Lessons (6 credit hours)
Complete 6 hours of instruction, 1 hour each from 1600 and 2600, and 2 hours each from 3600 and 4600, on a primary instrument or voice. Music Electives (15 credit hours)
Complete 15 hours, with at least 9 hours of upper-division (3000+ level) course work, from the following list: Auxiliary Requirements (9 credit hours)
Complete 9 credit hours of Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Core Courses. VAPA 1000-level Core course
Complete one 1000-level VAPA Core course from the following list: VAPA 3000-level Core courses
Complete two 3000-level VAPA Core courses from the following list: |
