The Department of Health Sciences offers a program leading to the degree of Master of Sciences (MSc) with an option in Health Promotion. In addition, the Department offers a Master of Science (MS) degrees in Athletic Training. Graduate students pursue coursework in these areas of study and related disciplines (biology, chemistry), providing the students with a diverse integrated curriculum of study.

MSc Health Promotion
The Master of Science degree in Health Promotion is designed to prepare students for advanced study and practice in Health Promotion related areas. Graduates are prepared to take leadership roles in designing, implementing, and evaluating health promotion programs in various public and private/work site agencies at local, state and national levels. The health promotion professionals trained in this program will possess the skills and knowledge to affect lifestyle choices and improve a person’s community or organizational health and wellness.

MS Athletic Training
The Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) is a 52 credit hour program preparing students to become an athletic trainer. The MSAT program is designed to guide students from basic skill and knowledge acquisition toward becoming an independent, proficient athletic trainer. Our model of development focuses on growth, not only in athletic training skills, but also in critical thinking abilities, interprofessional health care, and leadership skills. We aim to have graduates who are high quality athletic trainers with the ability to become leaders who can advance the field of athletic training. Students will participate in clinical education experiences with a variety of affiliated clinical education sites. Additional information about the MSAT program can be found on the web site.
The MSAT can be completed as a 52-credit hour 2-year program, or can be completed as a 52-credit hour concurrent degree program with up to 10 dual credits counting toward the BS in Exercise Science. Students wishing to pursue the concurrent degree should consult the BS in Exercise Science: Athletic Training Prep Track. The MSAT program is a controlled admissions program, and application does not guarantee admission.

Accreditation Information
UCCS is currently seeking accreditation for their new Athletic Training program and is not accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). The institution will be submitting a self-study to begin the accreditation process on October 1, 2019. Submission of the self-study and completion of a site visit does not guarantee that the program will become accredited. Students that graduate from the program prior to accreditation will not be eligible to sit for the credentialing examination for athletic trainers and will not be eligible for licensure in most states.
- UCCS will submit the self-study for accreditation by October 1, 2019 and anticipates an on-campus site-visit by February 2020.
- UCCS anticipates notification of accreditation decision by summer 2020.
- Students are not eligible for the BOC, Inc. examination until the program receives official notification of positive accreditation action.
